Golfers have been turning out in force at the Goondiwindi Golf Club, taking advantage of the perfect weather conditions at the moment.
The scores are still down on previous weeks, due to the lightning-fast greens, a result of the frosts that have occurred.
The Lowes Petroleum Day four-man Ambrose was a huge success and organisers are to be congratulated. The State Primary School received a sizeable cheque when more than 90 players hit-off.
Winners were Leon Wise, Jason Quinnell, Perry McGann and Luke Baguley with 53 1/8.
Every team in the competition (23) received trophies, so everyone was a winner on the day.
Saturday’s 18 hole stableford was won by Neil Linton with 39 points.
Runner-up was Greg Warden with 38.
Nearest the pins: 10th: Tony Gerry (5.98m); 15th: Todd McLean (3.25m); 18th: Don Frith (2.36m – 10 balls).
The ball comp went down to 35 and winners were: Neil Linton, Greg Warden, Harold Clayton, Mark Cleary, Don Frith, Shaun Brennan, Barry Reynolds, Carl Manton, Alistair Smith and Mark Everingham.
Sunday’s 18 hole stableford was won by the steadily improving Paul Cleary with 38 points. Runner-up was Bruce Germon with 36.
Nearest the pins: 10th: Skinner; 15th: Don McKenzie (9.95m); 18th: Alistair Smith (1.1m – 4 balls). The Ball comp went down to 33 and winners were: Paul Cleary, Mark Cleary, Don McKenzie and Bruce Germon.
Wednesday’s Veterans was won by new golfers Tom and Karen Biggers with a great score of 26 points for their first win in the Vets.
Runners-up were Bruce Germon and Margaret Donovan with 25.

Thurday’s Sporters winner was Clarrie Hillard with 23 points. Runner-up was Stehen Rohde with 22.

There’s a big chance for parents who want to get their youngsters taught golf at the right age. Pro David Wright is holding junior golf lessons for girls and boys 10 years and older. There will be five one-hour clinics on Wednesdays from 4pm to 5pm. The clinic will start on August 13 and finish September 10. The cost will be $27.50 per child with equipment provided. This is a good opportunity to get juniors interested in playing golf and anyone wishing to take part should ring David on 4671 2693.
The Norm Hilderson final was completed on Sunday and Shaun Brennan defeated Don Frith 3 and 2. Competitors in this event completed their matches on time in each round and are to be congratulated on their dedication.
Next Knockout final is the Vice-President’s which is on Sunday. Ian Zirbel and Robert Webb and Don Frith and Darryl Murphy will do battle in this match.
Kaloma Charity Day will be held on Sunday and a good field is expected to support this worthy cause.
