Golfers get Lynched

29/05/2008 12:22:00 PM
There was a Lynching party at the Goondiwindi Golf Club on Sunday when Marty Lynch strung the opposition out to dry in the 2008 Goondiwindi Golf Club Championships.

It was one of the most commanding performances seen at the Club for years.

He beat his nearest opponent Mark Everingham by 13 shots, when he recorded 294 gross for the 72-hole event.

Previous championships have seen the cup see-saw between these two but this year was one of the most convincing wins for years.

Ian Zirbel put in a fine performance to win the B grade by five shots to have 353. Next best was Don Frith on 358.

After bolting in the third round, Jon Castle spreadeagled the field in C grade to win by 25 shots with his 359 gross.

Don McKenzie was next with 384.

The top eight players in each grade will now play off in the Matchplay Championships. The Match Committee has given players until August 16 to finish these matches, which allows plenty of time to finalise this competition.

Dates are: 1st Round: Saturday June 21; 2nd Round: Sunday July 6: Final Round: Saturday, August 16. Matches must be played on or before these dates. If players can’t play by these dates, they will have to forfeit. If matches aren’t completed by this time, the competition will lapse. After matches are completed players are asked to inform the Captain and he will record the results on the draw which will be displayed at the Club House.

This is an important competition in the Golf Club’s calendar and players are asked to get in and get their matches played as soon as possible.

The draw is as follows:

Some wise golf quotes:

Income tax has made more liars out of people than golf.

Reverse every natural instinct and do the opposite of what you are inclined to do, and you will probably come very close to having a perfect golf swing.

Golf appeals to the idiot in us and the child. Just how childlife golf players become is proven by their frequent inability to count past five.

NO doubt. Marty Lynch proved he is Goondiwindi’s best golfer with a convincing win in the A grade golf championships on the weekend.
