 Strike up the band

Strike up the band

14/05/2008 11:05:00 AM
GOONDIWINDI’S pied piper Ian Greenland wants to resurrect a town tradition: a town band.

“Residents and visitors will no doubt agree Goondiwindi is a great town,” Ian said on Monday.

“Some say that when a town loses its football team, it is finished. Fortunately we have four major football teams but we don’t have a town band, the true measure of a great town,” he said.

Goondiwindi used to have a town band back in the early 1970s, some members are still around, fit and well, today.

“There are literally dozens of musicians around town and we need them and anyone else who wants to learn an instrument, to be part of a town band,” Ian urged.

He says there would be great opportunities for the band to perform, events such as Anzac Day, Gourmet in Gundy, the Spring Festival, Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations, openings and visits by dignitaries not to mention private functions and charity Balls. If you would like to be a part of the town Band then call Janie Mollony on 0428380198 or Ian Greenland on 0428718165.
