The leader of the LNP Party, who has taken on the mammoth challenge of uniting conservative politics in the Sunshine State, was in Goondiwindi last week to ensure that some of its residents don’t get too much of it - sunshine that is.
“What do you do when you ‘open’ curtains?” Lawrence Springborg asked, as he unveiled the new $32000 curtains and screens at Goondiwindi Hospital on Friday.
The Goondiwindi Hospitality Auxiliary with help from a generous grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund have helped make life a little better for patients at the Goondiwindi Hospital.
It’s the first change of curtains and screens since the new hospital was built in 1984.
A lot of work went into securing the grant of $28950.
President of the Hospital Auxiliary John Slack-Smith said secretary Noela Jackson and Cr David McMahon had been the driving forces behind the project.
“When I agreed to become President, they said, ‘Don’t worry, John. Noela will do all the work.’ And that’s been right.”
“It really warms my heart to see such a great spirit of volunteerism and dedication to their community,” he said of the members of the Hospital Auxiliary.
Noela said the auxiliary’s next project was to raise the $98,000 to buy 49 new televisions for 49 beds.
