THE Goondiwindi show just keeps getting better and it’s all due to the “Spirit of Gundy”.

P&A Society President David Elder was full of praise for the efforts of the entire community.

“This year’s show exceeded all expectation, numbers were up in so many of the sections, it was really outstanding,” he said.

And while the crowd was slightly down on Friday, they poured in on Saturday.

The campdraft registered more than 670 nominations and the showjumping arena was inundated with riders looking to get back into the competitive saddle after months of forced layoff due to equine influenza.

The wool pavilion staged one of the largest competitions held in the eastern states, displaying 187 fleeces.

Entries in art, photography and sheep were up as was the demand for commercial space from local and visiting businesses.

“We’re overwhelmed by the support we get for this show and as a community it is something we can be exceedingly proud of,” David said.

The P & A Show Society has engaged the services of a consultant to help prepare a master plan for the future direction of the showgrounds.

After spending the weekend in Goondiwindi, which included his first official outing at the Aspects Art cocktail party, consultant Mr Scott Taylor said he was impressed with the show’s vitality.

“The show appears to be in very good hands and its future very bright,” Mr Taylor said.

Goondiwindi P&A Society President David Elder got up close and personal with show “guest” Jack, the saltwater crocodile. But not too close. He declined reptile handler Steve Robinson’s invitation to hold Jack. Showing more gumption, above, was Amy Cook who had no qualms about coming to grips with a carpet snake.
