Boggabilla home burglarised and burnt

27/06/2008 11:26:00 AM
A Boggabilla house had its walls kicked in before it was set ablaze on Saturday night.

Police are interviewing a number of juveniles about the incident.

Emergency Services were called to the house fire at 58 Yeoman Street at 7.30pm.

The Boggabilla Rural Fire Brigade found the house well alight but no one was found inside as the residence had been vacant for a considerable time.

Spokesman for the Rural Fire Brigade, Gary Roberts believes the fire may have begun in the bedroom at the rear of the house.

Half the house was destroyed by fire and the remaining parts of the house were badly damaged by smoke.

Mr Roberts said the house is still standing but will possibly be condemned and then demolished.

“When we got into the house you could see that someone had caused a lot of damage to the place before the fire. There were walls that were kicked in,” he said.

A crime scene was established by attending Moree detectives and the Forensic Services Group officers from Tamworth arrived early Sunday morning.

Moree Police have since spoken with a number of persons of interest and have been speaking with a juvenile from Boggabilla who is helping them with their enquires.

Anyone with any information that will assist Police in the enquires should ring Moree Police on 0267529499 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 3300.
