Great music drove away the winter cold for a huge and appreciative crowd at the 7th Annual River Jam held at the Botanical Gardens last Saturday.
The popular event which showcases up-and-coming musical talent just keeps getting bigger and better every year.
“We ended up with a crowd of more than 350,” said River Jam Committee member Kirsty Dowling.
The Botanical Gardens Committee catered for lunch and at one point ran out of sausages.
“I think it was the best River Jam we’ve ever had!,” Kirsty said.
The nerves evaporated as the performers heard the applause and took to the stage like seasoned professionals.
Guest judges John Schumann and Hugh McDonald from renowned band RedGum were so impressed they invited young musicians Cooper Carrigan, Sam Jesson, Sophie Winter and Tracey Young to perform as their support acts the Queensland Hotel that night.
“Get a real job! Don’t be a song-writer or a singer,” John told the young musicians. He was only joking. Probably. We think.
